When you wake up in the morning, do you want a comfortable, pleasant feeling under your feet? A perfect bedroom rug allows you to do just that. Of course, in addition to color and pattern, the most important thing to make your bedside rug match the whole room is the size of the rug. The right size bedroom rug plays a key role in coordinating the overall effect of the room.
Why Need a Bedroom Rug?
Decorative effect: In line with the bedroom decoration style, choose a rug with a coordinated pattern, color, and material to add personality to the space and enhance the sense of warmth.
Convenient for living: Step barefoot on the warm and comfortable rug after getting up, away from the cold floor. In addition, when changing clothes, the clothes will not come off and wipe the floor.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before choosing the right size bedroom rug:
-
The location and size of the rug depending on the size of the bed and the size of the bedroom.
-
Regardless of the size of the bedroom, your rug should preferably not be close to the wall, and the edge of the bedroom rug should leave a little distance from the wall.
-
The bedside rug should allow you to step on it when you get up.
-
If the rug is placed under the bedside table, chest of drawers, or dresser, make sure you can open the door or drawer of the furniture without dragging the rug.
-
The shape of the bedroom rug can be selected according to your own preferences, or according to the shape of the bedroom. For example, if the bedroom is square, you can choose a round or square rug.
Small Bedroom Rug Size
If your bedroom is small, you can still place an area rug by your bed. If your bed is just in the corner, place a rug in the bedside area, either a runner rug or a small-size rug. The width of the rug is about the width of two bedside tables, and the length is the same as the length of the bed or slightly longer than the bed.
In a smaller room with your bed in the middle, if you choose a large enough rug, this can also visually make the space appear larger. You can choose to place the rug completely under the bed and bedside table. Note, however, that you need to make sure to leave 2 inches to 5 inches of bare floor between the rug and the wall.
The size of a twin-size bed is usually about 39" wide x 75" long (double size XL). Full-size or double bed, 54" wide and 75" long. If you have a similarly sized bed in your small room, here are some points to consider:
A rug that's 4' x 6' or 5' x 8' will probably take up the bottom two-thirds of the bed.
A 6' x 9' rug matches the bed, bedside table and bench at the foot of the bed.
A 9' x 12' rug can fit two double beds with a nightstand in between and two benches at the foot of the bed.
Large Bedroom Rug Size
For a large bedroom, a rug that is too small can throw the space off balance. If you do choose a large rug that fills most of the room, leave at least 8 inches of space between the edge of the rug and the wall.
In larger rooms, you may have a queen or king bed. Generally speaking, a queen bed is 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. One king bed is 76" wide and 80" long. A California King bed is 72" wide and 84" long.
An 8' x 10' or 9' x 12' rug may be able to cover the bottom two-thirds of a queen or king bed, but not the nightstand.
A 12' x 15' rug looks balanced under a longer California king bed, and a rug of this size can even fit under a nightstand.
A general rule of thumb is that area rugs should always extend at least 18 inches to 24 inches from the sides and feet of queen and king beds.
Rugs Under Other Furniture
No matter how big your bedroom or bed is, area rugs should never push over the edges or legs of dressers or other bulky pieces of furniture. One way, you can choose a rug large enough and fit it completely under the entire dresser. Alternatively, choose an area rug small enough to leave at least 2 or 3 inches of floor between the edge of the rug and the furniture.
